Tehran States It May Rejoin American Atomic Talks provided that Handled with 'Dignity' and 'Respect'
Tehran is ready to reinitiate atomic talks with the United States on condition that it is approached with "dignity" and "honor", Iran's top diplomat has announced.
Abbas Araghchi stated only diplomacy produced results, and shared recent overtures had been made by go-betweens to resume negotiations with the Trump administration. He claimed Iran had zero unreported enrichment locations, and Iran could not yet permit the UN nuclear inspectorate to access attacked atomic facilities for protective measures.
Navigating a Complex Course
The foreign minister is walking a challenging path since Iran aims to avoid appear to be acting from a position of disadvantage, and he insisted repeatedly that Iran had arisen more resilient militarily and psychologically from the Israeli-US attack on its nuclear sites in June.
He was talking at a security conference in Tehran where he reiterated that Iran had "an inalienable right to enrich uranium on home soil that it will never give up" – the main reason of the stalemate in the earlier negotiations.
Earlier Negotiations Suddenly Concluded
The previous five rounds of talks between the United States and Iran were ended suddenly and bitter end on 12 June when Israel, with American backing, attacked Iran's enrichment centers in a 12-day war that concluded with Donald Trump asserting the locations had been obliterated. Following this, Western states used their privilege to reinstate global restrictions, but Iran insists they have not had a substantial consequence.
Ideal Resolution Suggested
Tehran representatives stated they felt they had achieved a "magic solution" to the enrichment issue in previous talks, when it was decided an domestic cooperative with US participation could enrich uranium. Both sides would have been able to assert triumph since home-based processing would have remained and the US could be assured that Iran's atomic project was entirely non-military.
It had not been settled in the negotiations that US nuclear scientists could operate inside Iran, but that was a natural consequence of the partnership suggestion. Officials claimed three times they had secured an understanding with Washington's diplomat the US official only for the arrangement to disintegrate due to "opponents in the US".
Current Situation
Iranian officials declared the consortium offer was now withdrawn, but it seems highly likely the suggestion could be reintroduced in some form if talks reopen.
Trump in recent days stated he had been receiving messages that Iran desired to reopen negotiations, but confidentially Iran's diplomats claim they are not yet receiving clear proposals from the United States either straightforwardly or from important Middle Eastern intermediaries, such as the Qatari government, Egypt, Oman and the Saudi kingdom. The Tehran's diplomatic corps has been criticized of non-responsiveness in the wake of the US president's straightforward manner, but Iran states dialogue is not part of a performance.
Political Standpoint
In his remarks to the conference, designed to paint the US as a hegemonic power that exploits the concept of global regulations, the foreign minister stated the 12-day war showed the clash could not be settled by military means. He stated the attacks commenced with a US demand for an unconditional Iranian surrender and ended with an unconditional call for a truce.
Iran is certain the initial Israeli attacks were mounted with complete American awareness and cooperation, making trust challenging to reestablish.
Dialogue Remains the Final Answer
The foreign minister said: "It was not Iran that had fled diplomacy; it was the United States and the European states that had consistently attempted to impose their desires during the negotiations. Diplomacy can still be alive and remains the ultimate solution to settle disagreements, but its standards, rules and principles must be adhered to."
"If they speak to the nation of Iran with the approach of dignity and honor, they will obtain a answer in the equivalent tone."
Restoration and Reconstruction
In what is portrayed by Iranian officials as the conflict of repair and reconstruction, Araghchi stated he was confident Iran's military capacities "have significantly improved than prior to 13 or 14 June of this year. Our entire military infrastructure have been rebuilt. We learned many lessons from this engagement; we have discovered our own weaknesses and the weaknesses of the enemy."
He added: "We successfully passed this war. Our enrichment knowledge, which they intended to destroy, remains in place. The sites and machinery, if damaged, will be rebuilt; what is essential is the will of the citizens of Tehran and then the social solidarity that they targeted, but were unable to shatter. The citizens of Tehran have developed stronger, more united, and more supportive of the leadership and the state in the face of this assault."
